Germany is seeking to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Foreign Minister Steinmeier announced the candidacy for 2019/20 in Hamburg on Monday (27 June). The elections are expected to take place at the General Assembly in June 2018.

Two-day OSCE Conference "Connectivity for Commerce and Investment"
Foreign Minister Steinmeier opened the two‑day OSCE conference Connectivity for Commerce and Investment at the Federal Foreign Office on Wednesday (18 May). The objective of the event was to explore opportunities for improved trade and investment opportunities in order to strengthen business relations in the OSCE area. German International School Doha celebrates IB introduction
Recently the German International School Doha (DISD) marked the introduction of the German International Baccalaureate (IB).The event was attended by Ms Fawzia Al Khater, Director of the Education Institute at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, German Ambassador Hans-Udo Muzel and Swiss Ambassador Etienne Thévoz.
The introduction of the IB is a milestone in the young history of the school, which will enable students to study at German universities without having to go through further university entrance exams.
Deputy Foreign Minister visits Qatar
Markus Ederer, German Deputy Foreign Minister visited Qatar from 11-12 May 2016.
During his visit he held political talks with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Mereikhi and other officials.

Students from Mainz University visit Doha
As part of their masters’ program 12 students and 2 accompanying professors from the University of Mainz (Applied Sciences) visited Doha from 7-12 March, 2016.
During their visit they held meetings with German companies Allianz, Deutsche Bahn, ECE City Center Doha, Fischerappelt, and Siemens as well as the German Industry and Commerce Office (AHK) and the German Embassy in Doha. In addition the group visited Dolphin Energy, Al Faisal Group, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Transport and Communications’ ICT department, where they held talks with members in charge of ‘digital society’.
At the conclusion of their visit Prof. Rathje quoted “our students had many opportunities to gather interesting information about economic, cultural and political aspects in Qatar, impressions one can only gather on site. We are therefore extremely thankful for the wide range of appointments we were able to keep during our stay in Doha and for the extraordinary hospitality we received from the Qatari counterparts.”
German Embassy receives CSR Leadership Award
The German embassy in Doha received the CSR Leadership award at the “Qatar CSR Report 2015 – Leaders' Visions” ceremony. The prestigious award is devoted to private companies and NGOs for their leadership in the field of social responsibility in Qatar. The ceremony was held at Qatar University on March 2th 2016, in the presence of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic committee, the CSR person of the Year 2015.
Ambassador Hans-Udo Muzel received the award from Dr. Hasan Al Derham, President of Qatar University.
